Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches today as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, and its premise has more book-energy than most Yoshi titles. The setup: a talking encyclopedia called Mr. E falls from the sky onto the Yoshis’ island, his pages full of unfamiliar creatures waiting to be catalogued. The Yoshis dive into the book to find them.
Each chapter inside Mr. E is a different habitat. Forests, windy mountain peaks, sunny beaches, insect-heavy jungles. As players progress, they unlock new pages and new environments to investigate. Some of the creatures grow food for Yoshi to eat, others produce bubbles he can float on, and others sing when he jumps on them. Bowser Jr. and Kamek are after the same discoveries, which adds competition to the exploration.
Players can examine each creature, swallow them to taste-test (very Yoshi), carry them around, and use their behaviour to unlock new paths. New creatures can be named by the player, or by Mr. E if you’d rather have a talking book come up with names.
The game supports compatible amiibo figures, which provide daily tokens for discovery hints. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is out today, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2.
