Silent Hill 2 Remastered cover art with James Sunderland walking through foggy streets

Silent Hill 2 Remastered: First Impressions

Silent Hill 2 is a timeless classic, celebrated for its psychological depth and unsettling atmosphere. With the release of the remastered version, I couldn’t wait to dive back into the foggy streets of Silent Hill, reliving the tension and terror that made the original a masterpiece.

But my first impressions? Let’s just say, it’s been a mix of nostalgia and unintentional comedy. The atmosphere is still there—the eerie fog, the haunting soundtrack—but moments like corn dog zombies in platform shoes caught me completely off guard. It’s a quirky detail that made me chuckle more than it terrified me.

This remaster seems to walk a fine line between honoring the legacy of Silent Hill 2 and stumbling into oddities that might pull you out of the immersion. Is it worth your time? I’ll leave that to my full review when I finish the game. For now, check out my YouTube short below for a quick glimpse into my early experience.

My Thoughts So Far:

  • The iconic foggy streets are still breathtaking, but I noticed some quirks in the remaster that didn’t quite land.
  • Combat mechanics feel slightly dated—understandable for a remaster, but they could’ve used some polishing.
  • And, of course, corn dog zombies in platform shoes. Need I say more?

I’ll be back with a full review soon, but for now, let’s keep it light. If you’ve played the remaster, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What do you think of Silent Hill 2’s return? Is it true to the original, or do the quirks throw you off?
